Moses from all account as stated in the scripture was ordained a deliverer. He was born to save his people from slavery. Moses however, thought it would be by his own strength, power and wisdom. How wrong he was! He ended up a reject, a fugitive and a “glorified”slave working for his father in law. Exodus 2: 1- 22
How best can Moses be described during those forty years of running from destiny? This is a man raised in royalty, having been spared to fulfill destiny while other babies perished. As a baby he was shielded from evil, mistakes and all ills, however as a self sufficient adult, he made a blunder that would have changed the course of his life but for predestination – the hand of the Most High God.
Friends, can you relate your own life to that of Moses? You know you are part of the player in the agenda of heaven – you have been saved and know God has a plan for you, then a blunder, wrong decision and action, sending you to the backside of the desert. Exactly where the devil wants you and I, stigmatized, rejected and failing. You see, the back side of the desert is the training ground, where obedience and servitude is learnt, character is developed and tested, where solitude reveals you to yourself. Moses came from the palace, a prince of Egypt, however by the time he got to Median, like Joseph, his princely robe was torn, his appearance was like that of a vagabond. Prim and proper look and the courtesy of being a royal was no more.
While Moses was siting by the well, he must have thought deeply and regretted defending his people by killing that Egyptian. Oh! how I wish I can turn the clock back he must have thought. How did I get myself into this? What happened back there Lord? Like Moses, you and I have gone through situations and circumstances that has brought us to our knees and raised our eyes to the heavens where our help come from. We have been stripped of the colorful robes like Joseph and royal pomp and pageantry like Moses and in the backside of the desert, dry, uncomfortable place where we have been taunted, ridiculed, called names, in servitude and even our faith and loyalty is been questioned.
The Priest of Midian who later became Moses’s father in law and mentor knew nothing about Moses’ life and struggle in Egypt but took him in just the way he was, just like Jesus Christ took us into his kingdom and transformed us, giving us purpose and meaning. Moses must have resigned his life to barely existing just like most of us, until that encounter with the burning bush. He must have thought, this is how he was going to live out his life – he did not bother being on his own like Jacob did. He did not bother about striking out, dreaming big, doing something extraordinary, standing for something great, anything worthwhile, just like you and I sometime. Life sometime has a way of conditioning humans to become who they are not or were not meant to be, filled with self doubt and resigned to fate.
God knew Moses had to be startled out of slumber, mediocrity and stagnation. He started the bush on fire without it been consumed. Friends, be alert, be sensitive, the Lord wants you to pay attention now more than ever. Your dream must not die, your destiny is too glorious to wither, do not quench the spirit within you, let not the coal die off, fan it back, fire it up, the Lord need your service. You are a carrier of greatness and heaven depend on you to bring down God’s kingdom on earth. Like Moses, will you step aside and glance at the burning bush? You cannot afford to ignore the call, a whole nation depends on you. Yes, it might be the nation within your loins! Are they not worth striving for excellence for?
