Discerning The Voice of God

How do you discern who’s voice you are listening to? Any voice that speaks contrary to The Word of God is literarily not of God.

God spoke to Moses in the book of Exodus chapter 20 – (read for clarity), where He gave the Israelites commandments, laws, and principles to live by. In the New Testament, when Jesus was asked the greatest of these commandments by the Pharisees of His days, Jesus responded thus:

Matthew 22: 34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments

When you then hear any voice that leads you to hate God or other humans, you should know that, that voice is not of God. Any voice that instruct you to illtreat others, oppress them, oppose, malign or dissociate from anyone under any guise is not of God. Matthew 22:39 says to love others as yourself.

How do you discern whose voice you are listening to? Whose voice are you following? God’s voice or Satan’s?

The voice that encourages acts that produces evidence of the fruits of the spirit as stated in Galatians 5:22 is the voice of God.

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Any voice that encourages division, lies – for the devil is the father of lies – John 8:44; – oppression, abandonment, denial of justice, truth, dignity, equality of all men is definitely not of God. Any voice that speaks fear into your heart, unsettles your peace, and encourages wickedness is of Satan

A 16th-century priest named Dom Lorenzo Scupoli wrote, “The devil does his utmost to banish peace from one’s heart, because he knows that God abides in peace and it is in peace that He accomplishes great things.”

1 John 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

John 8: 47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

And God says, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:37 &38

The voices that tells you not to speak with another, encourages hate and division, causes disharmony amongst people, abandon cordiality and civility, feed your ego by taking you on ego trips, makes you think you are equal to God and places you as God in the lives of others is of the devil.

The voice of Satan will never take you to the path of humility, gentleness, kindness, empathy, self control and peace.

Father, we ask for the spirit of discernment so that we may know when you are speaking to us, and grant us grace so we may promptly obey your every word.

Lord, by your Holy spirit help us to know when Satan is speaking to us, grant us grace to resist him so he can flee from us – James 4:7: we ask in Jesus mighty name. Amen

Shalom!

Friends Or Foes? How Can You Tell? Be Discerning And Cautious!

Ezra 4;1 When the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the exiles were building a temple for the Lord, the God of Israel, they came to Zerubbabel and to the heads of the families and said, “Let us help you build because, like you, we seek your God and have been sacrificing to him since the time of Esarhaddon king of Assyria, who brought us here.” But Zerubbabel, Joshua and the rest of the heads of the families of Israel answered, “You have no part with us in building a temple to our God. We alone will build it for the Lord, the God of Israel, as King Cyrus, the king of Persia, commanded us.”

Friends, your adversary, the devil, though he goes around looking for whom to devour, will not present himself as an enemy. The wicked will often come dressed up like a friend, someone reliable and dependable. They will come to you at a time you need a friend, maybe a helping hand, a shoulder to lean on, or just a listening ear.

honest enemy

Like the scripture stated, the wicked will always hear and have information for, like a dog they sniff and always have their ears to the ground, eavesdropping on your case. They will suddenly show up, summoned by the insatiable desire to hinder and turn upside down, that which is meant to be upright. May the blood of Jesus prevail against such in your life.

Zerubbabel and the others were able to discern that these people are foes and not friends as they made themselves out to be and they were right. Friends, if you read further to chapter 6, you will know the extent to which they opposed the rebuilding of the temple.

Likewise are those that have presented themselves to you as friend, team member, working for the same course but are indeed actually sabotaging what you are working for. These are those standing against your peace and joy, promotion,  fruitfulness, lifting, breakthrough, and increase. Those stationary, going no where, blocking your way – may the hand that is not of mortal uproot them from your path in Jesus name.

stay real

See friends, Satan is a spirit and require bodies to carry out the task of hindering the plan of God for His creation. When you see someone, groups opposing a good course, just know they have been taken over by contrary forces, it is beyond them par se. You have to engage The Spiritual in order to effect a change in the physical.

Like the sermon this past Sunday. Saul was already in his palace, yet he left the comfort and honor of the palace to seek for David in the wilderness rough terrain. Don’t you dare underestimate the extent the wicked will go to in order to cause you pain! Satan is not playing, you also have to sit up, get up and deal!!!! You will make them turn their backs when you aim at them with drawn bow -Psalm 21:12.

The time that you have wasted is enough, it is time to redeem the time now friends for the days are evil – Ephesians 5:16. Stop these time wasters in their track by engaging them by the power of the Holy Spirit and you shall overcome in Jesus mighty name. Amen

Arise and take up the battle cry!! The Spiritual controls the physical my friend, so engage putting on your armor. Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Engage boldly, standing against the onslaught of wickedness!!!

Shalom! Shalom! Shalom!

Restrained Hands! The Lord’s Mercy!

Nabal’s response of disgust towards David was deserving of commensurate action by David. Read 1 Samuel 25

However, David’s intention was more severe, though justified from many angle except the divine. Thank God for the quick intervention of Abigail, who the Lord used to restrain the hand of David from shedding innocent blood.

The Lord used Abigail, a human for David, I wonder who, or what the Lord uses presently to restrain His children from sinning? Abigail was like a conscience for David, a mirror reflecting his intention, a voice of reasoning. May the Lord place such along our path.

David could have resisted, ignoring the voice of reasoning, kill Abigail, and proceed to wipe out Nabal and all that is his,  however, he didn’t! And Abigail? She took her life in her hands just like Esther in Esther 4:16.

The Holy Spirit, the word of God and our moral compass tells us when we are doing something wrong. The question then is, are we listening?

The Lord has, and is sending whatever that needs to be sent, to restrain you and yours from damnation. Will you heed the call today? The call to yield your heart, and life unto the Lord.

It is by the mercies of God that you and I are not consumed – Lamentation 3:22-23. It is the hand of the Lord that has kept you and I from grievous sin.

It is God’s hand restraining the wicked one from making a shish kebab of us!

Yield your heart today! Tomorrow may be too late!

Shalom! Shalom! Shalom!

Voice of Caution! Heed It!!!

obyKing David and Israel had been enjoying victory on every side. They have been succeeding. Satan was not too happy about this so he rose up against Israel by inciting King David to take a census of Israel. King David ordered Joab, Israel’s Chief of Army staff to take a census of the army. Joab – the voice of caution, reasoning, reminded David that Israel is the Lord’s, numbered or not. However, the Kings word overruled Joab’s and it cost Israel God’s favor and peace. God punished Israel. 1 Chronicles 21:1-15

In life we make decisions every second for variety of issue and situation that are logical, reasonable and sometime just impulsive. Regardless of what, why, how and when, there are consequence for every actions and reaction. We often find ourselves in situations that require more of us than we are naturally predisposed too. What do we do then?

We seek for help from trusted counselor, mentor and the likes. We also have the option of reaching out to a higher being by the Holy Spirit which is actually the best option. We could from the beginning enlist the Holy Spirit from inception to accompany us throughout the journey knowing any and many wrong turns will delay, mar, or hinder our purposes in life.

Like Joab with regards to King David, we might also have one or two subordinate that are fearful of disobeying God rather than please us. May we receive grace to hear the voice of caution when it speaks in Jesus name. King David did not listen and it cost Israel dearly. The King and Israel would have been worst off without the wisdom of Joab, who in disobedience to David, did not count the Levite. He did not fully carry out the instruction of King David, knowing it would displease God. How right Joab was! The godly give good advice to their friends, the wicked lead them astray – Proverb 12:26

What voice of caution have you been ignoring? What voice of caution are you working against to silence? Be cautious, it might save your very life? You see friends, our God works in mysterious ways. He uses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise. The seemingly irrelevant, inconspicuous thing, person, sight and so on might well be an instrument of caution, change and what not that God himself has given you for your good.

A gift not well wrapped or with unattractive covering does not change the value of the gift or the giver. Only he/she with discernment and the ability to see the invincible will be able to step back and think, reflecting on past and present to see the invincible hand of the Sovereign God unfolding treasures in earthen vessels for the greater good of all.

Dear Lord Jesus, I pray for grace for my friends and I to see the invincible, hear the inaudible and receive virtue from your very presence to be and do all that pleases you. May our very life give you pleasure Lord in Jesus mighty name. Lord Jesus, for some of my friends that are at a lost as to what next, step into their boat and give them direction and purpose, let their life count Lord in Jesus mighty name.

To my friends that have not yet made the decision to be Christ, would you draw near and invite Jesus into your heart, for God is not for the death of a sinner but for the forgiveness of their sins – Ezekiel 33:11. For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and  live- Ezekiel 18:23,32, John 3:16, Romans 5:12,6:23 . Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved – Acts 4:12

Jesus loves you dearly!!

Shalom!
