The Posture of Pondering

“But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.” — Luke 2:19

Christmas is often a whirlwind of noise, but Mary teaches us the power of the “sacred pause.” To ponder means to weigh things deeply—to place the miracle of God’s presence against the reality of our daily struggles. Christmas is not meant to be a fleeting moment or a seasonal sentiment; it is meant to be our foundation. We celebrate the birth of Christ, but we are called to embody His life every morning we wake up.

The Search for Alignment

Christ came to restore the bridge between the Creator and the created. As the year draws to a close, we must audit our hearts. Are we living in alignment with the Kingdom, or have we drifted into the rhythm of the world?

  • Decision Making: Are your choices rooted in the “spirit of fear,” or in the “power, love, and a sound mind” promised in 2 Timothy 1:7?
  • Priority: Is God the Architect of your plans, or merely the Consultant you call when the structure begins to shake? Matthew 6:33 reminds us: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
  • Consistency: Are you carrying the Light of the World into January, or are you packing Him away with the decorations?

Living the Abundant Life

Jesus said in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” This “abundant life” isn’t defined by a lack of trouble, but by an abundance of Grace. This life is accessed through three keys: Obedience, Surrender, and Trust.

As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame” Romans 10:11

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5-6

Moving Forward with Intention

As you stand on the threshold of a new year, do not rush into the unknown without the One who knows all. Pause. Reflect. Align. Let Christ remain central—not just as the “Babe in the Manger” we celebrate, but as the “Lord of the Harvest” who leads our daily walk.

The same God who was faithful to fulfill His promise in a stable in Bethlehem is faithful to lead you through the uncertainties of tomorrow.

Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us of this constant bridge:

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”


Reflection Questions for Your Journal:

  • What “treasures” from this past year do I need to sit with and ponder, like Mary did?
  • In which area of my life (finances, relationships, career) am I currently leaning on my own understanding rather than God’s?
  • What is one practical way I can keep Christ “unpacked” in my daily routine starting January 1st?

Prayer:

Father Lord, I ask in Jesus name that you would work in me to will and to act in order for your great pleasure to be fulfilled in me. Help me to do the needful, to study to show myself approved, a workman that is not ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. May I be consistent in the place of prayer I ask in Jesus Mighty name. Amen
