Joshua 21:1–8, 43–45 (Read the full chapter)
The Levites came to Eleazar the priest, Joshua, and the leaders of Israel and reminded them of what the Lord had commanded through Moses—that cities would be given to them for their inheritance. And the children of Israel gave the Levites their inheritance, just as the Lord had commanded.
This tells me something very important:
A promise does not automatically manifest simply because it exists.
There must be obedience and there must be asking.
God had already spoken. God had already promised. But the Levites still had to step forward and claim what belonged to them.
The scripture confirms this principle:
“You have not because you ask not.” — James 4:2
Many times, believers admire promises without possessing them. Destiny requires participation. Heaven responds to faith that speaks.

Jesus Himself instructed us:
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” — Matthew 7:7
Asking activates spiritual access. But in order to ask correctly, we must know what God has promised us.
Do You Know What Belongs to You in Covenant?
If you knew that a good inheritance had been promised to your parents and grandparents, would you not pursue it?
The challenge for many believers is ignorance of covenant promises.
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” — Hosea 4:6
God is a covenant-keeping God.
He remembers what He spoke across generations.
“He remembers His covenant forever, the word which He commanded to a thousand generations.” — Psalm 105:8
The blessings of obedience extend beyond one lifetime.
“The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear Him, and His righteousness unto children’s children.” — Psalm 103:17
God does not forget what He promised.
He watches over His word to perform it. — Jeremiah 1:12
God Rewards Faithfulness and Judges Disobedience
God is just. He disciplines sin, but He also honors righteousness and obedience.
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” — Galatians 6:7
He knows every generation by name.
He knows every family line.
He knows every covenant spoken over your bloodline.
“Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee…” — Jeremiah 1:5
He is the All-Knowing, All-Seeing, All-Sufficient God — Genesis 17:1; Hebrews 4:13
If God planted good promises in your lineage, you are permitted to ask Him to release them into your generation.
Ask for What Belongs to You in Destiny
Life may not give you what you desire — but heaven responds to what you ask in faith.
Ask for wisdom. — James 1:5
Ask for direction. — Psalm 32:8
Ask for enlargement. — 1 Chronicles 4:10
Ask for restoration. — Joel 2:25
Ask for divine help. — Psalm 121:1–2
God delights in blessing His children.
“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give good things to them that ask him?” — Matthew 7:11
