John 4:4 But He needed to go through Samaria. This is Jesus Christ needing to go through Samaria! Why does our Lord Jesus Christ have to go through Samaria? Why not take another route? Jews were not meant to relate, mingle, interact with Samaritans, and Jesus knows this quite well, why go through the city of the accursed?
Jesus had to go through an accursed, sinful woman in order to reach/save a people, a whole city for His kingdom. Isn’t it possible that Jesus could have met anyone else somewhere in Judea that could bring the message back to Samaria? Jesus as Lord new the heart of all human regardless of our outward piousness and sinfulness.
Jesus knew the heart of this Samaritan woman. He knew she was thirsty and hungry for life, for what she had was not satisfying. She knew there was something more and was believing, hopeful and expectant and was searching. How do I know that? John 4:25 The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ) “When He comes, He will tell us all things,”
The scripture also said she was lecturing Jesus Christ about the Well of Jacob. She had knowledge of her Abrahamic Heritage in John 4: 12 “Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?” and verse 20 “Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.”
Friends, what does Samaria represent in your life? What situation, circumstance or experience are you having right now? That happening that you thought shouldn’t be or have been! That glitch, hiccup and happenstance, ask the Lord for understanding and you will see that, it had to happen for God to be glorified in your life. Jesus went through Samaria to save a people for His kingdom, you are going through Samaria in order to benefit the kingdom of God. Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
Look inward friends, and you will realize that you have moved a step higher from who you used to be. Like the Samaritan woman, you are more confident of your heritage in Christ Jesus. You know who you are better now than before and your life is having impact in your spheres of influence. Like the Samaritan woman’s transformation, those in the city, lost and thirsty, but with the attitude of we’ve got everything together are having an “awe” moment. The light bulb is coming on in their hearts.
She showed the whole city the way to the Lord – The Way, The Truth and Life. John 4:28-30 The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, 29 “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” 30 Then they went out of the city and came to Him. and 39- 42 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans had come to Him, they urged Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of His own word.42 Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the the Savior of the world.”
What about you friends? Do not hide your light, don’t put it under the table, no matter how little, put it on a stool, lampstand, anywhere! Let it show someone the way to the Lord! Give hope to the hopeless, be a friend to the friendless. It takes the heart of Jesus to be a giver! Give love, encouragement, and comfort to another. Build up, strengthen and reach out to steady the stumbling. Jesus will never leave nor forsake you. Reach out to the deep for a catch. You will be surprised, for the harvest is plenty and the labourers are few. John 4: 34-38. Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! 36 And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37 For in this the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.” Do your part in God’s kingdom – preach and live The Word in season and out of season
