The Fig Tree Withered
Mark 11:12 Now the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry. 13 And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 In response Jesus said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.”
And His disciples heard it.
Jesus had just given instruction to the twelve regarding the colt and it was the way He said it would be. Remember friends that our Lord knows all things. Why then will our Lord expect fruit from a fig tree blooming out of season? The fig tree had lots of greenery but no fruit. Jesus Christ was hungry and expecting fruit from this tree He could see from afar with luscious leaves, but alas, there was no fruit.
Of all the beauty, green leafy veggie, abundance of all that money can buy that abounds in me, you, our family and congregation, is there any fruit for the Lord Jesus Christ to eat? Your beauty, is it bringing glory to God or to devour the weak? Your eloquence, is it drawing men to God, revealing the errors of their way or advertising the kingdom of this world – Satan. Your abundant wealth, is it used to gladden the Lord’s heart, caring for the poor and desolate or are you hoarding it and oppressing the poor thereof?
Friends, with all the appearance of holiness, blessings, joy and what not that we project, are we feeding the Lord? Are we supplying His needs and that of His own? Jesus expect lots from us considering the investment – virtues deposited in us, He has made in us. Are we giving Him that which He expect from us in and out of season.
The fig tree blossomed out of season but had no fruit, verse 13 And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it . There is the tendency for us to think, well, I am not doing too bad considering my situation and circumstances for I am preaching, am in the choir, prayer band, blogging about Christ, engaged in activities for the benefit of Christ’s Kingdom, helping those in need and so on. But! are you bearing fruit for the Lord Jesus Christ? Are you my friend? Am I? Oh, the world’s standard? Money, Power and Position? Not at all? Look inward, stripped of all these, do you have fruit for the Lord Jesus to eat thereof?
What does the Lord require of us, His expectation of His beloved, but to do His will, to set the captives free, salvation to all men, and to loose the bond of wickedness. Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?
Dear Lord God Almighty, have mercy on your beloved, cleanse us, prune us, transform us that we may begin to bear fruits, and may our fruits abide in Jesus mighty name. Thank you Lord for speedy answers. Be glorified Oh Lord in Jesus Christ mighty name.
