Spiritual Alertness – Communion with God and Man.

Judges 18:7-10 and 27-28

Wake up my soul, reach out to your maker!
Wake up my soul, reach out to your maker!

So the five men left and came to Laish, where they saw that the people were living in safety, like the Sidonians, at peace and secure. And since their land lacked nothing, they were prosperous. Also, they lived a long way from the Sidonian and had no relationship with anyone else.

8 When they returned to Zorah and Eshtaol, their fellow Danites asked them, “How did you find things?”

9 They answered, “Come on, let’s attack them! We have seen the land, and it is very good. Aren’t you going to do something? Don’t hesitate to go there and take it over. 10 When you get there, you will find an unsuspecting people and a spacious land that God has put into your hands, a land that lacks nothing whatever”………………..

26 So the Danites went their way, and Micah, seeing that they were too strong for him, turned around and went back home.

27 Then they took what Micah had made, and his priest, and went on to Laish, against a people at peace and secure. They attacked them with the sword and burned down their city. 28 There was no one to rescue them because they lived a long way from Sidonite and had no relationship with anyone else. The city was in a valley near Beth Rehob.

The Danites rebuilt the city and settled there. 29 They named it Dan after their ancestor Dan, who was born to Israel—though the city used to be called Laish. 30 There the Danites set up for themselves the idol, and Jonathan son of Gershom, the son of Moses, and his sons were priests for the tribe of Dan until the time of the captivity of the land. 31 They continued to use the idol Micah had made, all the time the house of God was in Shiloh.

The Church, the body of Christ have been living in safety, at peace and secure. We have been dull of hearing, insensitive to the times we are in like the people of Laish. We are not playing defense, nor attack. The Church is complacent, safely playing Church, when we should be in the attack mode, to uproot and to destroy every works of wickedness around us.

The Holy Spirit is not having its expression in our midst as He should because of the state of our hearts, the temperature of our gathering. Unlike times gone by, this generation have been laid back, living in so called peace and prosperity without so much a mention of miracles recorded in the Scriptures. There is evil all around us pointing to woes unleashed by the wicked one. Christians are been persecuted at home and abroad, there is chaos all over the world, no continent and countries without its share of tumult. The world and all its woes is gradually creeping in to pollute the Church.

So many are in a cocoon of ignorance and are not even aware of the spiritual famine all around. The state of our spirituality is at best lukewarm and we know it not. May the Holy Spirit not leave us, may we not grieve Him to the point of leaving us. Iron sharpens iron,  however some have kept away from all, ignorant of the treasure embedded in maintaining contact with one another and the Holy Spirit. Others have embraced all and are lost to the world. There is fear of rejection, of been taken advantage of or sheer deception but none can compare to the immerse positive outcome of right communion at the feet of the Most High God.

Now is the time for the Church as a body and individuals to set aside every encumbrance and arise and shine, to let the light of God shine through us to the dark places in the world, bringing salvation to sinners, hope to the hopeless, joy to the heartbroken, and prepare the way for the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to whom be glory, honor and adoration world without end. Amen
