Esther 1: 9 Queen Vashti also made a feast for the women in the royal palace which belonged to King Ahasuerus. 10 On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, seven eunuchs who served in the presence of King Ahasuerus, 11 to bring Queen Vashti before the king, wearing her royal crown, in order to show her beauty to the people and the officials, for she was beautiful to behold. 12 But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s command brought by his eunuchs; therefore the king was furious, and his anger burned within him.
Contrary to the pride that was said to cause Queen Vashti’s been dethrone I think she is a woman of courage. She upheld the dignity of womanhood even against the threat of death or banishment. She would rather die or be condemned to a solitary life than be paraded undignified before drunken and reviling men with no sense of morals or justice.
All the wives I suppose were having their own party, why Vashti alone?. She would have been able to hide in the multitude had they all been called forward right!
Would those men have paraded their wives for King Ahasuerus? What we cannot accept as a person, we often insist on another. We treat others the way we would not like to be treated and when they resist, we castigate them as been proud and obnoxious! All the other women before Vashti who complied with this indignity – where are they? Never referred to in the scripture! Or maybe there were none, still she lived with her dignity intact. Do not strip me naked in public and cover me up privately Vashti screamed by her action!
Very often we compromise our beliefs, faith and dignity just to be accepted, to belong at all cost even when we were created distinctly but jointly fit together to be one with God. We are uniquely created by the master planner for a purpose. You my friend need to find what that purpose is and go all out to fulfill it. Have unwavering faith even in the face of all ills that might pave the way. He who created you knows very well what you are facing and what you will face and already has a way of escape for you.
