Relationship On My Mind! Cleaving As A Pair!

This is a sequel to Relationship On My Mind!

The lack of truth and trust in our interaction with each other most often spills over into the marriage relationship.” Relationship On My MindTransparency – Truth, And Trust

Many have no idea of what is expected in the marriage relationship. Marriage is the first institution ordained by God between a man and a woman as long as they live. It is the most intimate of human relationships, and as much as it is plainly defined in the scriptures, it is the most complicated of all relationships.

Why complicated? Complicated in the sense that “they two shall become one”. Genesis 2:23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called woman because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

To cleave(verb) as defined in The Webster’s New World Dictionary and Thesaurus has two meanings. One is to divide by a blow: split; sever, and the second meaning is to adhere: cling to, and to be faithful to.

Friends, would you agree with me that it is easy to adhere, cling, and be faithful to one partner as long as they live? This should be the most natural act, like breathing!. You don’t learn how to breathe! On the other hand, cleave as in to divide by a blow, split, or sever, needs exertion, a force has to be applied! You would also first have to decide the spot, stage, and time to apply the force. This should be difficult and as such should not be preferred. Right?

The reality of life is that cleaving, as in to sever seems to be the order of the day. When a man cleaves to his wife, he is meant to cleave, cling, adhere to the totality of her being, all others not existing, and so also for the woman. She is to embrace and cleave to her husband, all others not existing. This, however, is far from what it is. Couples come together these days and jump ship at the slightest smell of wind. And for many more, marriage has become an “act” where a mask is put on for the world, to hide the gloomy hearts. This has resulted in different kind of infirmities- Proverbs 17:22

There is no fortitude to ride out the storm anymore – lack of trust, truth, honesty, faith in God and in each other, desire to please God in obedience to his will, perseverance and determination to work it out has resulted in breakdowns across every demography.

We must remind ourselves that God’s plan trumps all other plans, and life, living, itself is a storm! Since we can not jump ship when living life becomes stormy,(though some do by suicide, that is a totally different topic) we must, therefore, resolve to weather the storm together for calm is promised, its a guarantee for no matter any storm it must cease. That is the order! The question then is, are we ready to hold on till the storm ceases?

I pray Lord for every troubled mind, hearts, and homes. Let there be calm Lord. Peace be still to every union tossed to and fro by storm. To the ones that have shipwrecked Lord step in and do that which only you can do. You, Lord, can salvage anything and make it new. You are the restorer of old ruins – Isaiah  61:4. Most of all Lord, we pray for a fresh encounter with the person of the Holy Spirit. We want to hear you say “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things” Matthew 25:14-26

Shalom! Shalom! Shalom!

  1. So sad our media and society seem to want to ” normalize ” divorce more than ” normalizing ” marriage. Pre nuptial agreements are common now for more people….not just celebrities. Living together, ” commitment ” ceremony vs marriage and so much focus on dissolving rather than strengthening! No wonder our divorce rate is so high given the time and effort spent to make it easy. My heart breaks for the children of divorce. Again, tons of articles about resilient kids are and yet they rarely get to voice their opinion, if old enough to speak, to the judge. No wonder they feel de-personalized. The church could do more but is hesitant to offend the increasingly large numbers of ” blended ” families! Blended sounds so nice compared to divorce, I would like to see the church stop using the term! Thank you for sharing your writing ministry. Praying for you!

    1. So true Rick. God’s intention for marriage has been twisted, nothing seems normal as ordained by God anymore! Lack of the interest of the Church has resulted in masking instead of dealing with the cause and effect of marital problems and divorce! Satan is on the onslaught against marriages. May God help, keep, and restore our marriages. Thanks for your prayers and contribution Rick. Much appreciated!

  2. As odd as it may sound, if done in a loving and caring manner, both dividing and adhering are good in a marriage. Splitting up is not good, and that’s not what I mean. But I’ve noticed both actions being alive in our marriage and it has worked out for good. Some of the early dividing of misnomers regarding ourselves has led to some of the latter adhering to one another, which is now stronger than ever.
