When I was in the seminary, I was assigned a sermon on the ten virgins. I looked deeply into all the symbolism and found the lamps (our Light) needed filled with oil (the Holy Spirit). Those who made it into the wedding had an extra measure of it.
The professor seemed to be frustrated that I had taken this tact and so he marked me down on the assignment. But I went on and have used the analogy throughout life. It works. Christ in us the hope of glory.
